Ubuntu week at Frei Gonçalo de Azevedo High School

The first "Ubuntu Week Schools" was held at the Frei Gonçalo de Azevedo High School, from January 8 to 11, 2018.

The purpose of this initiative was to promote the leadership of young people, their capacity to be agents of change and social transformation in their communities, through the Ubuntu method (self-knowledge, self-confidence, resilience, empathy and service).

During an intensive week, the Ubuntu Leadership Academy journeyed through the Ubuntu method, with a group of 27 students from the 9th, 10th and 11th years at Frei Gonçalo de Azevedo Secondary School, where they talked about the example of the Servant Leadership of Nelson Mandela, the importance of Building Bridges, the challenge of Overcoming Obstacles and Overcoming Barriers, and the Meaning of Ubuntu Lives.

Testimonials from participants:

"I feel tremendous gratitude for being able to be part of this family. I feel ready to overcome any barrier and build the strongest bridges I have ever built. I feel like applying many of the points I have drawn from this experience. (...) I feel that I grew up and that in some ways I became someone that I longed to be: safe. I feel EXTRAORDINARY! "

"I have no words to describe what I feel and how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to participate in this training that has transformed me into a much improved human being.
