Ubuntu Week in São Tomé e Príncipe

Between 19 and 24 of March the concept and the magic Ubuntu arrived at São Tomé and Príncipe.

At the Portuguese Cultural Center, in the capital city, 44 young people immersed themselves in Ubuntu principles.

The participants put the Service pillar into practice at the Elderly Home of Simoa Godinho through actions of giving and sharing with the elderly residents.

The examples of inspirational leaders have brought together a number of living examples of servant leadership in São Tomé: Osvaldo Reis – of the São Tomé and Príncipe Association of the Disabled - has infected the group with his joy and has shown that physical disability is not an obstacle to greatness of will; with Sister Lúcia Cândido - Franciscan Sisters of the Integrated Project of Lembá - the theme of fear was referred without fear focusing on the force of action and not on obstacles and resilience as a virtue of who truly wants to be at the service of others; Aida Beirão of the Holy House of Mercy of São Tomé and Príncipe addressed the theme of the elderly and the ill-treatment they are frequently subjected to, reinforcing the importance of respect for human life at any age and launching new reflections on how society The Ubuntu concept came to São Tomé to stay, and partnerships have already been established with the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs of São Tomé and Príncipe, the Federation of University Sports STP and the National Youth Council of STP, with other partners in the pipeline.

This was a transformational experience for trainers and trainees alike. A seed was sown in São Tomé that will be watered by a group of committed Ubuntu people who are full of desire to bring to the four corners of the islands the philosophy of being more person through other people.
